Balmes Building
The Balmes Building owes its name to its strategic location on Calle Balmes, which is located in the heart of Barcelona and is one of the city's main thoroughfares. It was built in 1926 and designed by the renowned architect Enric Sagnier. The building was the headquarters of the former Fòrum Vergés, one of the city's leading cultural centres, and was owned by the Jesuit order until 1987. After passing through the hands of various owners, the building was bought by the Catalan Government, before UPF finally acquired it in 1990. On 8 October that same year, 316 students of Law and Economics and Business Sciences began their first year of study at the new Pompeu Fabra University, in the classrooms at the Balmes Building.
In 1992, the building was extended, and since 1997 it has housed the Institute of Continuing Education (IdEC) and UPF's school of master and postgraduate programs, now known as Barcelona School of Management or UPF Barcelona School of Management.
