The UPF Barcelona School of Management (UPF-BSM) has successfully completed the Business School Impact System (BSIS) process. The BSIS remarks that the UPF-BSM has a significant educational impact with a large and active alumni network and a high percentage of local students who find their first job in the regional job market. In terms of societal impact, the BSIS highlights that the school has integrated corporate social responsibility and sustainable development into its internal practices, and they the UPF-BSM has a clear mission for responsible consumption and waste management.

Michel Kalika, Director, BSIS, congratulated UPF-BSM by saying: ‘We are delighted to welcome Universitat Pompeu Fabra Barcelona School of Management in the pool of schools that underwent the Business School Impact System (BSIS) process. UPF-BSM is a forward-looking institution with strong links to the business community, especially through internships and a strong alumni network. They position their students to find good opportunities in the job market. We have been impressed by their dedication to societal impact through a clear mission to integrate CSR and sustainable practices.’

Jose M. Martinez-Sierra, the Director General of the UPF Barcelona School of Management, had this to say about the BSIS process: "Universities have a special role in confronting the challenges of climate change and sustainability and since they have a commitment to educating generations of students that can contribute to the betterment of society, they must also assume a unique and particular responsibility in helping to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for all.

Management schools are key actors in the education of the people who will lead organisations and institutions in the near future and that can enact the necessary change that delivers us to a more sustainable tomorrow. The UPF-BSM is committed to giving its students the necessary knowledge and values for them to meaningfully contribute to positive economic, social and environmental change that can move society towards a more healthy and sustainable future where everyone can thrive.

One of the strategic priorities of the UPF-BSM is to assume its share of responsibility in working towards a sustainable environment and it is also committed to building and operating a sustainable campus that contributes to the well-being of all the members of our community and to the health of our neighbourhood, our city, our country and ultimately, our planet.

That is why we are particularly proud that our institution has successfully completed the advising process that made it possible to obtain the endorsement from the Business School Impact System (BSIS). The BSIS goals are directly aligned with our goals and strategic plans that seek to generate positive social impact in several ways, including a healthier and more sustainable environment.

The BSIS evaluation process highlights the positive impact that UPF-BSM is able to generate through its solid connection to the Catalan ecosystem, through the presence of our alumni in senior positions at relevant organisations, and a strong scheme for knowledge transfer. The evaluation process acknowledges the participation of UPF-BSM in the Positive Impact Rating system and recognises the use of the integrated social value toolkit as a differentiating factor. It also highlights our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy centred around our commitment to work towards planetary wellbeing. In this context, the UPF-BSM consolidates itself as an actor with a positive social impact for the environment through BSIS accreditation.

The distinction allows the UPF-BSM to join the more than fifty international management schools that have received an endorsement from BSIS and the positive outcome of this evaluation positions UPF-BSM as a global business school that is dedicated to both the present and the future of our society."

About BSIS

The Business School Impact System (BSIS) scheme is designed to determine the extent of a school’s impact upon its local environment – the city or region in which it is located. The BSIS process is offered in a joint venture between EFMD Global and FNEGE as a service to EFMD members in any part of the world. The impact of the business school is analysed on the basis of the following seven areas of impact: financial, educational, business development impact as well as intellectual, societal, image and impact within the regional ecosystem.

There are currently 54 schools across 17 countries that received the BSIS label.
