The UPF Barcelona School of Management (UPF-BSM) held today its annual Faculty Acknowledgement Day ceremony, an event dedicated to recognising the commitment, talent and impact of its academic community in the areas of teaching, research and knowledge transfer.

The event was opened by the institution’s Managing Director, Jose M. Martinez-Sierra, who highlighted the principles of responsibility, innovation and leadership that drive the School’s academic project.

During the ceremony, hosted by Luz Parrondo, PhD, Academic Director of the Master’s Degree in Financial and Accounting Management at UPF-BSM, several awards were presented, reflecting the diversity and quality of the work carried out by the faculty.

Among the award recipients, Albert Banal-Estanol, Academic Director of the MSc in Finance and Banking, stood out after being named Faculty of the Year. Erola Palau, Deputy Director of the MSc in Sustainability Management, received the Teaching Initiative Award for an innovative project that explains the new European sustainability legislation through short, humorous videos, achieving excellent pedagogical results.

Research and social impact were also recognised with the Social Research Award presented to Lucinda Cash-Gibson, PhD, for an article published in a Q1 journal on early warning systems for extreme weather events and the role of public health. The Knowledge Transfer Award was granted to the project “ESG Strategic Support and Mentoring to SOMTU Nepal”, led by Marcos Eguiguren and Andrei Boar, developed in collaboration with the business school of Tribhuvan University. The project was created to address the profound social, economic and environmental challenges facing Nepal, as well as the urgent need to train leaders capable of transforming the country’s key sectors.

In addition, Stephan Maurer received the Impact Publication Award for an article published in the Journal of International Economics, and Alexandra Abós was honoured with the Teaching Excellence Award as the highest-rated associate professor by students.

The ceremony concluded with remarks by the School’s Dean, Llorenç Bagur, who highlighted the essential role of faculty in building academic excellence and enhancing UPF-BSM’s social impact. The Dean thanked all award recipients for their dedication and their ongoing contribution to enriching both the academic experience and the professional development of students.
