The Goya Awards recognized yesterday the talent linked to UPF Barcelona School of Management through two productions closely connected to the Master’s in Documentary Filmmaking, which stood out in several categories during the ceremony.

On the one hand, Sirat, directed by Oliver Laxe, was one of the most awarded films of the night, winning six awards, two of them granted to alumni of the UPF-BSM Master’s in Documentary Filmmaking. These included the awards for Best Editing and Best Sound, presented respectively to Cristóbal Fernández and Amanda Villavieja.

Tardes de soledad received the Goya Award for Best Documentary, a prize that recognizes the production and the entire creative team. The film features the participation of Luis Ferrón and Ricard Sales, professors of the master’s program, and is directed by Albert Serra. The film, which had previously won the Golden Shell at the Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián, portrays the intimate and professional life of bullfighter Andrés Roca Rey, approaching the world of bullfighting from an introspective and unconventional perspective.

Gaudí, Goya… and now the Oscars

These achievements follow the recognition both films received at the 18th edition of the Premios Gaudí, where Sirat was the big winner of the night and Tardes de soledad received the award for Best Documentary Film. Oliver Laxe’s film won eight of the twelve nominations it received, including Best Production Management, Cinematography, Art Direction, Original Score, Sound, Costume Design, Visual Effects, and Makeup and Hairstyling.

In addition, Sirat is nominated for two Academy Awards: Best International Feature Film and Best Sound. The latter nomination recognizes the team formed by UPF-BSM alumna Amanda Villavieja, together with Laia Casanovas and Yasmina Praderas.

A journey of excellence that reaffirms the role of the Master’s in Documentary Filmmaking at UPF-BSM at the forefront of contemporary cinema.
