GSK Chair in Health Economy

The GSK Chair in Health Economy at UPF Barcelona School of Management aspires to generate systematized knowledge on health economy and also transfer that knowledge to stakeholders involved in decision-making. 

Among the planned activities, a discussion forum will be organized between experts on the purchase and financing model of medicines, called “I Foro Norte de Economía de la Salud” (I North Forum on Health Economy). Additionally, a working document will be prepared with a summary of the debate, the reflections, and aspects dealt with in the I Foro Norte de Economía de la Salud, in order to contribute to the transfer of knowledge of the topics discussed. This forum will be held on 9 and 10 September 2021 at the UPF Barcelona School of Management facilities. 

Objectives

The objective of the Chair is to generate a systematized knowledge of the health economy: 

  • Provide information and knowledge on relevant aspects of health economy. 
  • Organize the forum of experts on the purchase and financing model of medicines. 
  • Transfer said knowledge to the stakeholders involved in decision-making. 
  • Prepare a working document with a summary of the debate, the reflections, and aspects dealt with in the I Foro Norte de Economía de la Salud.

Jaume Puig-Junoy

Director of the Chair

Doctorate in Economic and Business Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Former director of the Centre for Research in Economics and Health (CRES). He has held positions of responsibility in the management of public health services in Catalonia, and has published numerous research papers on Health Economy and Medicines in international scientific journals. Director of the Master in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics (MESOL) (UPF-BSM) and of the International Master in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics (MESIOL) (UPF-BSM).

Teaching

Online Master in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics
This offers professional and specialized training in health economics, economic evaluation, and management of health services and technologies, teaches how to apply the basic and fundamental aspects of the techniques and instruments for the economic evaluation of medicines and medical technologies through cost-effectiveness analysis, cost-utility analysis and cost-benefit analysis.

Postgraduate in Health Economics
This program is part of the Official Master's Degree in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics. The topic is oriented to health policy and management, with an emphasis on the economic evaluation of drugs and medical technologies, economics and financing policies, and their application to the health economics market (supply and demand).

Postgraduate in Pharmacoeconomics
This postgraduate course is part of the Official Master's Degree in Health Economics and Pharmacoeconomics. It is oriented towards the economic evaluation of medicines and medical technologies, economics and financing policies, and management of medicines in health services.
