Program Curriculum

Subject I. Introduction: basic aspects (3 ECTS –20 classroom hours)

• Introduction: Basic aspects and application examples (company case studies) in different settings and sectors.

• Basic ethical concepts. Relativism.

• Corporate social responsibility: CSR (definition, evolution, trends and application dimensions: internal and external).

• CSR and its relationship with other concepts (sustainability, shared value, green economy, circular economy, compliance, economy for the common good, etc.).

• Practical session with companies and organizations.

Subject II. Social responsibility management (4 ECTS –26 classroom hours)

• Internal and external interest groups (definition and relationship with organizations).

• The various scopes of CSR management in organizations and in their activities: Good governance and ethical management; economic aspects; social, employment and environmental aspects.

• Codes of ethics and other protocols. Codes of conduct: concept, verification and monitoring.

• Certified CSR management systems (SANO8000, ISO 14000, etc.). Other guidelines and recommendations for application (ISO26000, etc.).

• Practical session with companies and organizations.

Subject III. International initiatives. Communicating sustainability policies. Reporting (3 ECTS – 20 classroom hours)

• General international framework: regulations and legislation concerning the various scopes of sustainability.

• International framework: milestones, organizations and initiatives in the various scopes of sustainability: employment, the environment and human rights, etc. (International Labour Organization, OECD, Global Compact, Sustainable Development Goals, etc.).

• Other specific initiatives and frameworks: change management (theory of change, Theory U), integrated social value, economy for the common good, etc.

• Reporting and verification of it based on the organization's characteristics (sector, dimension, commitments, etc.): Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Communication on Progress (COP), Integrated Reporting (IR), etc.

• Practical session with companies and organizations.

Subject IV. Other related aspects. Social action (3 ECTS – 22 classroom hours)

• Alternative economy initiatives: cooperatives, fair trade, ethical banking and microloans, organic agriculture and local production, businesses at the base of the pyramid, etc.

• Social investment funds and sustainable stock market indexes.

• Social action and philanthropy Volunteer work.

• Practical session with companies and organizations.
