Access to housing is one of Spain’s major structural challenges, with a social housing stock well below the European average. This shortfall, compounded by underinvestment and rising market prices, has made it essential to explore new approaches. In this context, current trends point toward the adoption of successful international models, such as Housing Associations, to expand and consolidate the supply of affordable rental housing.
This event will present the study “Housing Associations: Social Housing Provision and Management”, the eighth report developed within the framework of the Chair for Decent and Sustainable Housing (UPF-BSM), in collaboration with the Metropolitan House Foundation.
The main objective of the study is precisely to propose a model for social housing provision and management adapted to Spain’s reality. To this end, the report offers a comprehensive analysis structured around three key pillars: the economic and financial model, social impact, and governance. Through a review of Spain’s social housing ecosystem and the analysis of two third-sector case studies, the report illustrates how professionalized management can effectively complement public action.
The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion featuring professionals from the sector, who will share their practical experiences with housing associations.
Attendees will receive a printed copy of the study.
