The Maria Canals Piano Competition, founded in 1954, is aimed at young performers from around the world between the ages from 17 to 29. One of the activities related to this competition is "El Maria Canals porta cua", which consists of placing grand pianos in various public spaces for anyone who wishes to play them.
One of the locations will be the Sala Koiné at the UPF Barcelona School of Management, which, on March 14, from 12:00 AM to 9:00 PM, will host this beautiful initiative, providing its students with a grand piano so they can share their talent with the rest of the community.
The Pompeu Fabra University has been participating in this initiative for ten years, helping to break social, cultural, and mental barriers that often surround music for a large part of the population.
This edition also features a special program: at 6:00 PM, we will host a dialogue with J. M. Asencio, author of the book "Entre acords i cadenes", who will alternate between music and expert commentary on the songs in the repertoire, accompanied by musicians from the organization (pianists and singers).
Afterward, J. M. Asencio will hold a book signing session.
We are sharing with you the repertoire we have worked on:
• Ave Maria (piano)
• La bohème (piano/voice)
• Noche de paz (piano)
• La vida sigue igual (piano/voice)
• Over the rainbow (piano)
• Al alba (piano/voice)
• Itaca (piano)
• Hasta siempre comandante (piano/voice)
