The postgraduate course will prepare you for a professional position in HR Global Mobility that is increasingly necessary and complex after the COVID pandemic. After a global stagnation in international mobility, a product of the 2020 health crisis, specialists indicate that a new era for international mobility processes is beginning. Despite a possible decrease in volume, there is a certainty that these processes will be more complex, more changeable, more expensive and more stringent for companies.

The crisis has shown that many companies, which were considered international, did not have the knowledge and the tools to manage a mobility crisis such as that caused by the coronavirus among their posted or expatriate employees. All this has further evidenced the need for an updated global mobility department prepared to add value to the company through a solid international mobility strategy.

The Postgraduate in Internationalization of HR and Global Mobility aims to consolidate the professional profile of the HR Global Mobility Manager, a role until now merely transactional, as an expert in the definition and implementation of international mobility plans, and consolidate it as a business partner that generates value and is part of the company's strategy.

During the program, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve an efficient and effective comprehensive management of the internationalization of HR, which responds to the needs and requirements of any international business project. You will also be able to identify and develop all the necessary requirements to define and successfully manage an international mobility plan.

The Postgraduate Course in Internationalization of Human Resources and Global Mobility is aimed at technical or managerial professionals with experience in international HR management and international mobility projects, and professionals in various HR areas (labour relations, compensation and benefits, selection, training and development) interested in specializing in HR internationalization and international mobility.

Curriculum

This program is structured into three subjects, in which the most relevant and important aspects and concepts that allow the development and management of an international mobility plan will be addressed, from a practical approach based on professional reality.

All students must complete a Postgraduate Final Project that will consist of the individual preparation of an international Mobility Plan for a company.

Internationalization and International HR Management

This subject seeks to understand how the role of HR areas has evolved in internationalization projects.

The topics to be covered are:

  • Introduction to the global economy. VUCA environment.
  • Strategic HR management. New destinations and new challenges for HR. New challenges in global compliance and reputational risk management.
  • Impact: New generations in global mobility. New nomadic global expatriation profiles, local plus, commuters, swaps, etc.
  • Strategic cost management (ROI).
  • Culture of inequalities. Reduction of gender differences.
  • Repatriation.
  • Talent management in the international arena.
  • Recruitment, selection, and hiring of international personnel.
  • Strategic dimension. Identification of the profile and position to be covered. Criteria. Competencies. International base.
  • Definition of policies to attract, retain, and promote talent, linked to the business strategy.
  • The value of international experience. Knowledge transfer.
  • Management of cultural diversity and intelligence. Cross-cultural understanding.

Compensation-benefits, legal, labour, tax, and immigration regulations and procedures

The objective of this course is to understand and know all those aspects considered as technical, relative to situations and questions concerning compensation and benefits, immigration, labour and social security, and fiscal aspects, which must be defined and specified before departure. They will be specific and different for each project and destination.

The topics to be covered are:

  • Introduction to compensation and benefits policies.
  • Compensation strategies in multinational environments and their impact on mobility. Remuneration package and most common practices in compensation matters.
  • Design of remuneration structures. Salary plus Incentives. Short/Long term. Typology of premiums and complements. Mixed formats.
  • Emigration processes: preparation and international management of documents. Requirements. Application for residence and work permits, obtaining powers of attorney. Formats.
  • Immigration: immigration laws and regulations.
  • Causes and procedures: types of contracts and international assignment letters.
  • Completion of international assignment.
  • Social Security: introduction to the practical problems of Social Security. Regularization. International agreements.
  • Bilateral agreements by country. Applicable regulations.
  • International regulations not regulated.
  • Tax obligations of the company. Tax residence. Agreements. Taxes. Double taxation.
  • Legislation: special regime for resident and posted workers.
  • Tax incentives by type of travel. Tax deductions. Obligations. Tax planning.
Security, Coverage of Assistance, and Expat Digital Transformation

This course is intended to teach the relevant and essential aspects of coverage and legal obligation of companies in terms of their responsibility for the safety and protection of posted people in each project, the impact of digital transformation in any internationalization project, and the importance of obtaining and analysing data, Expat HR Analytics. Includes a description of the roadmap of the International Mobility Plan.

The topics to be covered are:

  • International security. Analysis of real and potential risks, means of protection and security protocols, collective evacuation in emergency situations.
  • Travel Risk Management.
  • Duty of Protection. Legal, financial, and moral obligations. Management.
  • Medical and welfare coverage.
  • Relocation Services.
  • Data management and analysis. Expat HR Analytics.
  • Technological solutions to support mobility projects.

Individual elaboration of the International Mobility Plan of a company.

Qualification obtained

Once you have completed the program, you will be awarded the degree of Curso de Postgrado en Internacionalización de RRHH Global Mobility, issued by the Pompeu Fabra University.

Evaluation

You must attend 80% of the course sessions in order to pass, as well as submit the Postgraduate Final Project.

Who can apply?

To access the admission process, you must be a graduate, or intermediate level graduate with a university degree. Other candidates without the required university degree may take part in the selection process by virtue of their academic or professional merits and the place of work they occupy. Upon passing the program, they will receive a certificate of achievement issued by the UPF Barcelona School of Management.

Applications for admission will be evaluated when you complete the following steps:

  • Complete the online admission form.
  • Pay the €120 admission fee. This amount will be returned if you are not admitted.
  • Send the following documents through the online platform e-registrar:
    • Presentation letter or video
    • CV
    • Scanned copy of university degree (if you are in the last year of your degree, you can provide your academic records)
    • Scanned copy of Transcript of Records. Make sure that it includes your GPA (Grade Point Average)
    • Scanned copy of ID Card or Passport
    • Passport-size photo (jpg format)

Additional documents may be requested in certain cases.
Application rounds are subject to the number of places available on the program.

Admission

  • The Admissions Committee will select the candidates on the basis of a personal or CV-based interview.
  • You will be notified of the admission decision in writing.

Enrolment

  • Registration must be paid within a 15 days after the admission.
  • Once the letter of acceptance to the program has been received, you will need to submit the following original documents before the course begins:
    • Stamped and/or authenticated photocopy of your university degree.
  • If you have a foreign degree you may need to submit additional documents.
  • Paying the reservation fee (25% of the program's tuition fees) is essential in order to reserve your place
  • If you pay the tuition fees by bank transfer you will be required to introduce the program code. The program code for this course is 3335.
  • The remaining tuition fees must be paid 2 weeks before the start of the course.
