UPF Barcelona School of Management participates in the VII Energy Marathon

26 Enero - 2022
Marató Energia UPF-BSM
  • During the month of February the UPF-BSM community embarks on the project to reduce electricity and water consumption, cut emissions and make energy poverty visible

One of the objectives of the UPF Barcelona School of Management (UPF-BSM) is to ensure planetary well-being in our daily lives. The school has been working for years to make our building as sustainable as possible, but there is always room for improvement. For this reason, this year at UPF-BSM we have joined the Energy Marathon project for energy saving promoted by the Catalan Institute of Energy.

The Energy Marathon is an awareness and good practices campaign in the use and consumption of energy in buildings and public facilities, which aims to achieve energy savings and allocate the resulting economic savings to actions against energy poverty.

The Energy Marathon is an awareness campaign and good practices in the use and consumption of energy in public buildings and facilities

This initiative will be carried out in the month of February, jointly with other public and private institutions, among which there are 18 public buildings and facilities of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

One month and four fields of action

Throughout the month of February, actions will be promoted that involve the reduction of energy and water demand, promoting sustainable mobility and the reduction of emissions. Over four weeks, the entire UPF-BSM community will be involved in this initiative.

The first week is focused on electricity, the second on air conditioning, the third on water and the last on emissions.

  1. During the first week of February, the objective will be to take into account actions such as turning off lights and computers if they are not used, preventing charged electronic devices from being plugged in or staying healthy using the stairs instead of the elevator.
  2. The week focused on air conditioning will encourage everyone to take into account aspects such as insulation, programming the right temperature at the time of year, to make the most of heating energy.
  3. The third week will raise awareness about the great scarce resource that is water: only 3% of the planet's water is fresh and less than 1% can be used for human consumption.
  4. The last week will focus on the commitment to renewable energies and the practice of sustainable mobility.
