Big Data: the technology that is changing sport

18 Enero - 2019
  • Data collection and analysis are the greatest challenge sports clubs face

The emergence of new technologies is a fact that has changed sport in recent years, as can be seen in developments in equipment, refereeing, training and recovery after injury. However, there is a facet of technology that affects all aspects and poses a challenge for sports clubs: Big Data. Data collection and analysis are carried out in different areas of sport management, such as marketing and physical training to analyse, monitor and track athletes' performance. One example of success in applying Big Data is Movistar's cycling team. The team monitors its racers and the measurements taken enable it to modify their race preparation and strategy. As for results: Valverde, one of the team's racers, won the world championship a few months ago.
