Biennial of thought. "J’avance masqué”: Does the relationship between documentaries and reality offer up a promise of freedom?

“J’avance masqué” is an expression by Georges Perec to refer to the work of documenting one’s own existence. In this round table, we will ask playwright Carlota Subirós and the director of Museu Tàpies, Imma Prieto, to discuss the promise of freedom associated with the artistic practice of the “self” and its reference within a social, historical, and political context. How can a certain experience of freedom be possible in concrete artistic practices? Why do we assume that the subjectivity of art can provide access to collective life? The debate will be moderated by Oriol Montanyà, journalist, professor and director of the UPF-BSM Sustainability Observatory.
The Biennial of Thought is a project promoted by Barcelona City Council through the Institute of Culture of Barcelona and in which UPF-BSM participates as a collaborating institution.
The programme of this new edition of the Biennial of Thought has been created with the collaboration of professionals from different fields and this edition proposes to reflect on the tomorrow that is drawn at this time of global transformations.
