Introduction to fintech and digital technology
Introduction to fintech and digital technology

You will be shown a classification of fintechs and the possibilities of new technologies, the importance of information, and its treatment through APIs with the necessary computer technology for reaching efficient solutions. Specific cases of success and failure of fintechs will be analysed, examining their business model. In particular, we will study how new technologies affect the financial sector, the impact of specialized platforms, crowdfunding, equity investment, and crowdlending or peer-to-peer loans (P2P), and new models of relationships with the client as well as new forms of marketing.

Data science
Exploratory, descriptive, inferential, and predictive data analysis

Starting from a basic level of statistics, methods for obtaining, analysing and predicting data will be developed using the Python program. In particular, databases on the web and scrapping, Python libraries for statistical analysis, (Pandas, Numpy, etc.), applications of inferential statistics, regression analysis, and time series will be examined.

Data Science for Finance

An overview of the main issues with machine learning and data analysis will be provided. The models used to solve these problems, the algorithms to train the models, and ways to evaluate their effectiveness will be examined. Particular emphasis will be placed on their applications in the financial sector. In particular, the approach to neural networks, machine learning, and artificial intelligence will be discussed, and they will be compared with factor analysis and Cluster analysis.

Distributed ledgers and blockchains

The operation of Decentralized Registries (DLT), their advantages, disadvantages and the possible benefits of using Blockchain will be described. To do this, important aspects of cryptography will be examined, such as hash functions, public or private keys, digital signatures, and proof of zero knowledge. Later, consensus algorithms and their characteristics will be looked at.

Crypto assets

New forms of payments and financing, decentralized payment systems and programmable money, smart contracts, and the digital money of central banks will be examined, along with the problems they imply.

Regulation and legislation

The regulation and protection of data, digital identity, cyber security, and the regulation of fintechs and crypto-assets will be examined.

Postgraduate Final Project
